There are certain beauty products I try not to buy in stores because making them costs much less. Body scrubs are one.

Homemade body scrubs are super easy to make. They take minimal effort, cost pennies and are essential for healthy, beautiful skin. Everything you need to concoct your own scrub, can be found in your kitchen.  And the best part is, you can make one to suit your every need. I usually stick to using two or three scrubs (alternating between each one on a bi-weekly basis.) I tend to make enough to last me one time’s use but I just recently got some air-tight containers so I can store them for longer.

Here are four of my favourite body scrubs:

Squeaky Citrus Clean

Lemon and epsom salts are a perfect combination to slough away dead skin cells and reduce inflammation. This exfoliating scrub is a natural stretch mark therapy because lemon has great brightening properties that can lighten those stubborn ripples.

Goodbye Cellulite

Cellulite is a very common skin issue among women of all shapes and sizes. It’s caused by regular fat that lies below your skin, which naturally leans and pushes against connective tissue. This pushing is what leaves us with rumpled skin. Coffee increases circulation and absorbs liquid to temporarily smooth out the appearance of puckered skin. *Sometimes I add a few drops of lemon juice to brighten or mint for its soothing scent.

Sugar Sugar

A sugar and olive oil scrub is ideal when you’re in a tight schedule and your body’s screaming for exfoliation. You can quickly add these two ingredients together for complete dead skin rescue.

Exotic Enzymes and Oats

Papaya has natural enzymes that exfoliate your skin without being too harsh on sensitive skin. This scrub also promotes even skin tone and the oatmeal and almond oil help soften skin. But it’s also important to know that, because we’re using real fruit, it cannot be stored for more than a day max.

P.S. If you’re looking to relax while exfoliating, grab a few scented candles when you head to the bathroom for a soothing spa-like feel.
