Heading back to school with a new hairstyle or hair color is a way to reinvent yourself for the year. Dying it blue, cutting bangs, parting it to the side… these are all options we consider at this time of year.

When it comes to school hairstyles, you cannot always follow a trend because;

  • You’d rather sleep in that extra 20 minutes instead of creating an over-the-top hair-do.
  • Over the top hairstyles are for runways and prom…you don’t need to doll up for school.

But, it’s always possible to get tired of your regular everyday look, so I’ve found 5 simple, but flattering hairdos that won’t take time away from your sleep schedule:

*I used Lauren Conrad as reference for all the hair ideas because I just love how she styles her hair.

1. Classic Ponytail

A ponytail can help illuminate your face, just by drawing attention to certain parts that may otherwise be hidden by hair. It gives a fresh and sleek look, regardless of whether you have curly, straight or wavy hair. And it only takes what 5 minutes? (Feel free to add ribbon!)

2. Side Plait

The beauty in this hairdo is that it appears to have taken a lot of effort, but in reality, it’s just a simple braid. The more complicated version of this is the side fish tail braid, that looks equally difficult but is incredibly detailed and pretty.

3. Bun

Whether it’d be a sock bun or a doughnut bun, a messy ballerina bun or a slouchy elastic bun, you’re sure to look cute in this trendy do. Create a clean bun for the day or put together a quick messy bun for those after school study sessions.

4. Center Part

Hairstyles parted right down the middle are especially popular in haute couture runways right now, but they’ve never gone out of style in everyday fashion. Center part ponies, buns or waves, they all work, so don’t be afraid to try this one.

5. Just Left Down

This is my everyday favourite. I just like leaving my hair down, in its natural form. It takes minimal effort and is so simple. Just spritz some hairspray or detangler, apply a little hair serum if your hair feels brittle or frizzy and you’re good to go!
